The Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) team is a critical part of the Discovery Sciences organization in Janssen R&D and is committed to the delivery of high-quality chemical leads needed for the generation of small molecule clinical compounds for all five Janssen Therapeutic Area discovery teams. As a member of the DTMP team, the Associate Scientist will interact with diverse scientific disciplines including biochemistry, cellular pharmacology, hit identification, and protein science coupled with an ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Within DTMP, the Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology department is responsible for the delivery of high-quality small molecule lead compounds by applying rapid, innovative, and therapeutically relevant cellular assays from target concept through the lead optimization process. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and innovative scientist to drive the implementation of High Throughput (HT) cell-based assays broadly supporting our 5 therapeutic areas. The ideal candidate will possess working knowledge and technical skills in developing for high quality cell based screening assays including the ability to interpret experimental results under supervision. In addition, S/He should be able to demonstrate independence at the bench and be capable of multi-tasking across multiple projects.

The Associate Scientist, Lead Evaluation And Cellular Pharmacology Will
  • Implement recombinant, primary, and/or complex cell-based assays with a variety of endpoints to enable de novo lead identification from large scale screening campaigns.
  • Implement large scale HTS assays in collaboration with therapeutic area stakeholders and multidiscipline DTMP teams.
  • Execute and troubleshoot weekly assays in support of medicinal chemistry efforts, assuring high-quality data analysis and reporting.
  • Exhibit an awareness of new technology advances and scientific knowledge in the field and methods to apply them to assays in the laboratory.
  • Contribute data and methods to compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal review meetings and scientific journals.
  • M.S. in Cell Biology and/or Physiology, Immunology, Oncology, or relevant field with an additional 2-5 or more years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience or BS/BA in Cell Biology or related field with 4-8 or more years of experience is required.
  • Previous experience performing pharmacological analysis of test compounds is a preferred.
  • Previous experience with cell handling and common laboratory liquid handling and plate-based readers is required.
  • Experience in establishing cell-based assays plate-based formats using readouts such as fluorescence, chemiluminescence, and TR-FRET is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and implement experimental protocols is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data for reporting and presentation is required.
