The Senior Scientist within Physical Properties R&D will contribute to the team's success in three main areas. This individual will develop, optimize, qualify, validate, and transfer a variety of analytical and physical property methods to support the analysis of contact lenses and solutions. The individual will provide technical expertise to project teams to enable the characterization and analysis of new materials and products in our competitive landscape. Finally, the individual will support the substantiation of product claims through cross-functional collaborations.

The Senior Scientist will establish relationships and lead activities to accomplish goals in a timely manner. The individual will also be encouraged to recognize, diagnose, and resolve instrument and method problems for various analytical techniques. The individual will initiate and write technical documents with general supervisory input. Finally, the individual will collaborate with outside researchers to combine our collective expertise and identify new technologies to facilitate new product development and keep our group current.

The Senior Scientist will uphold environmental policy, procedures, and support department environmental objectives. Credo-based decision-making is required and intellectual curiosity is always encouraged at JJV.

Role Responsibilities Include
  • Perform equipment qualification for GMP equipment, with knowledge of software validation activities, as needed, for instrumentation in development.
  • Perform method development, optimization, validation and transfer activities; modify methodology to improve the quality, accuracy, and usefulness of data.
  • Participate in Physical Properties activities related to the development of new materials and products, including representation to project teams.
  • Drive physical testing innovation; work toward the identification, assessment, and development of new, scientific concepts and technologies.
  • Perform R&D testing for developmental samples, raw materials, and clinical supply lens products, as needed.
  • Work independently to perform research where analysis of situations or data requires in depth evaluation of various identifiable factors in one or more areas.
  • Ensure quality conduct of projects, reports, and manuscripts, adhering to applicable regulations and ensuring that records and raw data are accurately retained.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry or Mechanical/Bio-engineering is required. Master's or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant industry experience is preferred
  • Experience in Physical Property R&D testing methodology (including spectroscopy) is preferred
  • Familiarity of Quality Engineering tools and practices for the effective and efficient development, qualification, transfer, and maintenance of equipment and methods is highly desirable
  • LIMS and GxP experience are preferred
  • Familiarity with ISO 18369 series preferred
  • Up to 10% domestic travel is required
